When bass guitarists think of buying a new guitar, one of the first names they think of is Fender. The Fender precision and jazz guitars have become legendary in the story of popular music from Roll 'n Roll to Country & Western.

The Fender company was first formed in 1946 by Leo Fender who revolutionised guitar design. In 1951 he introduced the Precision bass and later the Jazz bass. He was not the first person to design a bass that could be held horizontally instead of resting vertically on the floor, Paul Tutmarc had done so some years earlier, but the model never really became popular. The quality and compact design of the Precision bass meant it was an instant hit with musicians, especially those forming small groups.

Due to ill health Leo Fender sold the company to CBS in 1965. Twenty years later the Fender name was sold again to ex-employees of CBS who were keen enthusiasts of the guitars. The new set-up was dedicated to the production of high quality guitars and a determination to meet the demands of professional musicians and novices wanting the best instruments.

The Fender Custom shop designs and produces one-off guitars to meet the needs of individual guitarists. They also produce editions of earlier models, for example the Jazz Relic guitars, or editions of replicas of guitars and bass guitars made for well-known players, for example the Pino Palladino Signature Precision Bass. Custom models are expensive, but many fans like to own a replica of a guitar produced for a favorite musician, knowing it will have the quality they are looking for.

Fender now produces a wide range of guitars, amplifiers and accessories, and their products are in demand throughout the world. If you are looking or a quality instrument capable of a fantastic sound, Fender bass guitars will not disappoint.
